Hello from the other side – motherhood. Whhhaaat?! I know. I dropped off the face of the blogging world shortly after finding out I was pregnant. For those of you who don’t know, I now have a baby to show for it! The truth is I lost all interest in creative endeavors and just turtled at the sheer enormity of what was happening to me. Josh and I were so excited but the reality is that pregnancy is no joke and not for the faint of heart. I know Beyonce is making it look positively divine, but its not everyone’s cup of tea and it certainly wasn’t mine! That’s ok to say, right? The exhaustion, morning sickness, fear of the unknown, your body morphing before your very own eyes, taking a break from work and the uncertainty that comes with that and the profound impact of how your identity is about to change was all very overwhelming. Going from non-parent to parent is arguably the most significant shift in identity that any person can go through and I struggled at times with finding myself in this new world. Just seeing a Baby Bjorn and knowing I would inevitably wear my child like a necklace sent me into panic mode.
That said, our baby boy Mateo John Zierten, was born on December 29th, 2016 and is the love of our lives. We are so enamored with this little man and beyond proud to be his parents. And because I am now looking back at my pregnant season with more celebratory (I did it!) lens, I decided to share some images from my maternity shoot alongside our beautiful neighbor, the Golden Gate Bridge. I may even get inspired and share my journey in reverse and blog a few other maternity looks that never saw the light of day. It’ll be fun, like the movie Memento. All images were shot by my talented partner in crime.
My blush empire dress is from Free People, a label I lived in throughout my pregnancy. Their dresses are whimsical and their styles are flowy and feminine. Perfect for evoking that radiant pregnant goddess look. I couldn’t find the one I wore but I listed a few other gorgeous options at the bottom of the post. Enjoy!
